Very cool, Ollie. Isn't it great that the seated guy has a 'companion?' Very nice!

Every July we have a local Fest. And during the local fest the post sets up a 50/50 raffle on the side of the bridge that about 70% of the people going to the fest have to walk across. We have done this as long as anyone can remember.

Last year a car pulled up and one of our Volunteer Firemen got out of the car and said he had something for me. He gave us a statue. maybe 3 ft tall and about 160 lbs or better. Rough cast concrete. Really bad seams in it. Well we took it to my place for me to grind down the seams and Paint it. May have taken me 11 months but it's done.....

SO Monday evening, weather permitting, Our color guard will once again Open the "Cruising the River" antique car show, But this week will be they're 4th of July celebration. So I will be asked for a little intro...

So I dusted off an old intro and changed it to fit the occasion.

Here it will be....So it is written so let it be spoken.......

    Ladies and Gentlemen, Veterans, legionnaires,
On behalf of Lowellville American legion Post 247 and the Lowellville Business association, welcome to Cruising the River

Tonight the Cruise celebrates 237 years since the signing of the Declaration of independence.

I remember being asked one time if the USSR had a 4th of July. Of course the reflex answer would be no. But yes they do, but like the British and all the other countries of the world, they don’t celebrate it. We Americans celebrate the 4th of July as our Independence Day, for it is the day that our forefathers decided that they wanted freedom. Freedom that has lasted 237 years. May it last a thousand times that.

We see here tonight some of the veterans which helped keep this country free, these veterans all played a part in protecting those liberties that were so important to our forefathers and which we still hold dear to us today.

Ladies and gentlemen let’s have a round of applause for these veterans.

Thank You and enjoy your evening Cruising the River.

17 fallen veterans to be honored at Lowellville Day

The village will honor 17 of its bravest men who died in combat during World War II and the Vietnam War at the 37th annual Lowellville Day on Saturday.
For years, plaques bearing the name, military rank, place of death and age of death for each of the 17 fallen soldiers lined Liberty Street, but recently had begun to take “such a terrible beating,” said Ronald Rotunno, chairman of Lowellville Day and a village councilman.

SO, the IRS is now keying in on the American Legion......They are giving posts fines of $1000 a day that they do not produce copies of their memberships DD 214's....

I got news for them. My post regulations require an Officer of the post in good standing to see a prospective new members DD 214...We do not keep this intensely personal information on file.

If the IRS wants to see a list of my members I'll be happy to provide their names....No address or phone number and certainly not their DD214... Not without a court order anyway. And even then they would have to contact each member.....I won't.....

Supposedly we have to have 98% of our membership to be veterans....

That is according to the IRS...

But American legion by laws state that you have to have been a veteran who served honorably during time of war.... We have exact dates we go by.... If you weren't on active duty during those time periods you don't become a member.

So what the IRS is telling us is they don't trust us to follow our own by laws....

This was supposed to have been addressed at our national Convention and some Senate committee has supposedly asked the IRS to explain themselves....

Bet you didn't hear it on the news.......
