I figure he's just getting a jump on the left before they try to ban all weapons from within 500 miles of any congress critter....

Well to be clear I am for owning guns and for CWPs so I will only say this; I do not feel congressmen's or any other politician's lives are any more important than any of the rest of us. "Members of congress and others" is what bothers the hell out of me. Who are the "others?"

The Others are anyone with a state issued Concealed Carry Permit or license.

I agree with Ollie. The 'others' are all others with CWPs who are currently not allowed to carry in D.C. The bill would make it legal for those with CWPs from other states to carry when they come into D.C., something that is not currently legal for them to do. It is not a bill providing congressional privilege but denying the same protection for everybody else.

But re the congressmen's lives, most of us do not have to deal with death threats or have to deal with suspicious packages or letters containing some kind of white powder etc. That is the almost daily situation with those elected to Congress. And most of us don't have to worry about assassination attempts but in today's toxic political environment, fanned by social media, message boards, and a thoroughly dishonest media--something that didn't exist so much prior to the GWB administration, assassination is a concern like it has never been before.

One of the reasons I haven't made a few short trips to DC is because I would have to leave my carry piece at home...

Still wondering about States Rights, vs Federal Rights... Isn't this question a matter of Federal concern ? But then again who plays by the rules anymore..right?

It's a strange mix of Government when it involves DC. Congress is the legislature for DC and they trump anything the city might say...On some areas. I guess the City takes care of normal city type stuff but Congress handles State type stuff... DC does have a Representative in the house...(I think)

This is very hard to disagree with. I'll only say that even though the average citizen may not have to deal with the type of threats you make mention to on a daily basis, we do deal with many more threats to our lives than ever before by terrorists, radicals, and just plain idiots who want to go out and kill as many people as they possibly can. I just do not want laws passed that only protect an elite few. And yes I know it is an entirely different subject but you only have to look at Obama Care to get a great example of what I am talking about.
